The question is then, where are the pitfalls that might stop them in their tracks?

There are two ways to approach it. First, which games stand out on the calendar as the hardest, and second, what factors will have the biggest impact?

Let’s start with the latter.

Last season, Leinster were not quite as dominant in the league in the first half of the season, but they had sewn up top spot in Conference B very early in the season.

That allowed them to rotate and rest up players in the final weeks of the regular season, losing three and drawing one of their last four games.

This year they are already 11 points clear at the top of Conference A, and if they continue at their current rate, they will probably have a home semi-final in the bag with three games to go in the campaign.

At that point you could certainly imagine Leinster taking no chances on any players with little niggles, but that will not necessarily lead to defeats.

After all, even for a team who have always had enviable depth, this season is another matter entirely.

The Guinness Six Nations will see a lot of the big names away, but when your fly-half options go four deep between Johnny Sexton, Ross Byrne, Ciaran Frawley and Harry Byrne – the latter having shone in his first steps with the senior side – even a weakened team looks formidable.

The depth in the back row is similar (Ireland can only pick so many of them), while overseas stars like Scott Fardy and James Lowe will have a big role to play during the international period alongside the youngsters.

The concern could come in the front row, where the loss of Cian Healy, Tadhg Furlong and Andrew Porter would hurt any team, but Leinster coped well enough while they were off in Japan at the World Cup.

Likewise at scrum-half both Luke McGrath and Jamison Gibson-Park were part of Andy Farrell’s stock take squad, but considering the form of John Cooney and the experience of Conor Murray, at least one of the pair should be available.
