The spotlight will be shining brightly on Glasgow Warriors’ outgoing Stuart Hogg when they meet Ulster in the Guinness PRO14 semi-final but the full-back need not grab all the headlines.

Glasgow’s Adam Hastings has already claimed the Energia Next-Gen Star of the Season to follow in the footsteps of Hogg but there will be plenty more young talent on show at Scotstoun.

One of the key battles to look out for will be Ulster’s Kieran Treadwell against Glasgow’s Scott Cummings in the second row – so here is a closer look at what each player brings to

the table.

Scott Cummings

Age: 22

Position: Second row

Born and bred in Glasgow, Cummings can count himself among the few players born in the city at Dave Rennie’s disposal presently.

And Glasgow is very much a theme of this year’s Guinness PRO14 Final Series for Cummings, who will have the chance to play the final in his birthplace should he and his teammates progress past Ulster and make it to Celtic Park.

The 22-year-old, who is yet to represent his country but is certainly on Gregor Townsend’s radar, missed both matches against Edinburgh back in December but has found a run of form in the latter stages of the season that has seen him become the number one choice to partner Jonny Gray in the second row.

That should come as no surprise when you consider what Cummings offers as a leader, having captained Scotland Under-20s back in 2015.

His partnership with Gray appears to be the perfect combination of power and athleticism and if both start against Ulster, the visitors will need to keep a sharp eye on Cummings.

Between he and Gray, Glasgow have two towering lineout options who will be looking to put Ulster under real pressure.

Kieran Treadwell

Age: 23

Position: Second row

Born in the London Borough of Sutton, Treadwell came through the Harlequins academy and made a handful of appearances before he was picked up by Ulster in 2016.

Qualifying through his Irish mother, he has lined up on three occasions for Ireland, his first cap coming off the bench against Japan back in 2017.

At the same time has established himself as a key figure in the Ulster pack.

The 6ft 6in lock is surprisingly athletic for his height and a string of consistent performances have earned him regular selection this season in Dan McFarland’s team.

Strong ball-carrying capabilities and brilliant awareness have seen him set up try-scoring chances for his teammates but it is his tackling that is his main weapon.

Treadwell produced arguably his best game in an Ulster shirt when he faced Racing 92 in European competition in January, putting in some huge hits on former Munster winger Simon Zebo, and will be hoping to produce a similar performance against Glasgow.

And he also showed he can be an asset with ball in hand, producing a key offload for Nick Timoney’s opening try against Connacht in the quarter-final.
