“It’s incredible, and it’s a brilliant link between the Munster support and the European Cup, so it really makes it extra special.

“It’s nice for me to score tries and do my job for the team – it’s a focus I’ve concentrated on a bit, having a bit more of an impact on games, working hard to be in positions more consistently.

“The excitement’s already building for next week against Racing 92 – it’s going to be a brilliant game and we know Racing are going to be confident.”

McFarland praises tenacious Ulster

Ulster travelled to Bath on the back of an impressive start to the Guinness PRO14 season – they currently lie second in Conference A – and continued that momentum with a hard-fought 17-16 victory at The Rec.

The dangerous duo of John Cooney and Rob Lyttle both went over for the visitors, but head coach Dan McFarland chose to hail his side’s indefatigable spirit.

“Today was about the team performance,” he said.

“We really dogged that out and nearly beat ourselves at the end.

“Bath stuck it to us and they are really physical and we had to match them there – set piece wise we did a good job.

“Defensively we did a good job and sure they have some threats on the bench.

“Bath made it really difficult in the collision area, but when you know what you can do with the ball in hand, we have got to treat it as precious.”

Mulvihill merry after historic Blues triumph

John Mulvihill’s Cardiff Blues travelled to Rugby Calvisano in the Challenge Cup without a win in Italy for 18 months, but they swiftly set about putting that right with a brilliant 38-16 triumph.

Matthew Morgan, Seb Davies, James Botham, Rey Lee-Lo and Harri Millard all crossed for a bonus-point victory, and the head coach was over the moon with his side’s second-half performance.
