Glasgow Warriors and Cardiff Blues went head to head in the final European Champions Cup match of Round 5 as the two Guinness PRO14 sides produced a thriller at Scotstoun.

It was the hosts who ultimately emerged victorious to edge closer to securing a quarter-final spot after holding off a fightback from the Blues to claim a 33-24 bonus-point triumph.

Glasgow had lost three on the bounce going into the game, but they took the lead after 26 minutes when Grant Stewart grabbed the opening try.
Scott Cummings scored the second to make it 14-0 after Brandon Thomson’s conversion, before Owen Lane cut the deficit for the Blues with a try before half-time.
A further try for Chris Fusaro extended Glasgow’s lead after the restart, but they were pegged back again when Harri Millard crossed just before the hour.
Oli Kebble’s score kept Warriors in front but Josh Navidi touched down for the visitors and Lane grabbed a second.
George Horne’s final flourish sealed the win however and the Warriors are four points behind Saracens, who they face next Saturday to decide who tops Pool Five, and may need a point to secure a last-eight spot

Glasgow head coach Dave Rennie said: “It wasn’t easy tonight. It took us a while to get going but really rapt with the men up front. I thought the scrum, line-out and drive set the platform.

“I thought they attacked really well. A couple of really soft ones in amongst that, and we know how to keep it tense don’t we? In the end we got the tries we needed. We’ve got a few things to tidy up.”

“I think if Edinburgh can beat Montpellier next week we’re safe, so we’ll be cheering on our mates down the road. But if not, it might come down to us and Edinburgh.”
