Round 14 of the Guinness PRO14 was perhaps the most entertaining yet with close contests, epic scorelines and a feast of scintillating tries.

Only three games in the history of the Guinness PRO14 have produced more points than the Toyota Cheetahs’ 61-28 win over Zebre Rugby and one of them was the last season’s meeting between the same two sides at Bloemfontein, when it was 54-39.

Malcolm Jaer’s score made up one of the Cheetahs’ nine-try haul but was by far the standout in a stunning team move that started from inside their own on 22.

Meanwhile, Yaw Penxe scored one of the most stunning tries you are likely to see this season but the brilliance was not all his as he was set up by the gravity-defying Meli Rokoua as Isuzu Southern Kings beat Edinburgh Rugby 25-21.

And Owen Lane produced a contender for finish-of-the-season in awful conditions at Rodney Park as Cardiff Blues edged out Connacht Rugby to stay within touching distance of their closest rivals in Conference A.

Yaw Penxe (Isuzu Southern Kings)

Heading into the final minutes of the game and with the Kings receiving the restart nobody could have predicted what was about to happen.

The Kings collected the high ball and immediately passed the it out wide to substitute Meli Rokoua.

Rokoua stepped inside to beat the defence and flew up to the halfway line before stumbling and just as his body was horizontal, he offloaded out the back of his hand to Yaw Penxe.

Penxe, who has pace to burn, bounced on the devil and put the pedal to the floor to reach the tryline for a famous win.

Malcom Jaer (Toyota Cheetahs)

There was abundance of tries to pick from the match but when William Small-Smith set his side away from inside their own 22-yard line it looked likely that this one would be the pick of the bunch.

It was a well-worked team move in which Benhard Janse van Rensburg showed brilliant hands and even better awareness to spot Malcolm Jaer haring up inside him.

He timed the offload to perfection to allow the South African to carry the ball the remaining 60 metres and dot down.

Owen Lane – (Cardiff Blues)

If the previous two tries earned a place on this list for their build up play, this one earned a place for the finish.

Cardiff Blues’ Owen Lane was positioned perfectly for Lloyd Williams to offload to after the scrum-half decided to go blind off the scrum and took the ball in hands at full tilt as he headed for the corner.

Despite the best attempts of a tackle from Connacht’s Tiernan O’Halloran Lane reached out, kept the ball under control and elevated his whole body off the ground so as to make sure he did not slip into touch.

The TMO was called into action but the try was awarded and it turned about to be crucial as the Blues ran out 8-7 winners.
