Round 3 of the Guinness PRO14 was a belter and, after three wins from three, Toyota Cheetahs are the men to shoot at in Conference A, likewise Scarlets in Conference B.

Elsewhere in the Round there were important wins for Ulster, Glasgow and Ospreys amongst others, here we’re taking a look at seven key men who helped deliver weekend wins.

SCARLETS BOLTER

With Wales’s Gareth Davies currently starring at the World Cup, Scarlets are a club who know a thing or two about try-scoring scrum-halves, and in 23-year-old Kieran Hardy they appear to have found the next man off the line.

The academy product has been away for a spell at Jersey Reds but is now on Scarlets business, scoring two excellent tries in the 54-10 win over Zebre; making breaks left, right and centre and picking up a deserved man of the match award.

TURNOVER KING

Cardiff Blues may have lost 17-13 at Glasgow Warriors but could have won the game if all 15 men had been effective as back row Olly Robinson, consistently excellent for John Mulvihill’s men for several years now.

The flanker made 19 thumping tackles and a number of crucial turnovers, last season’s Big Red Cloud Turnover King Award-winner already on six for the season.

FADDES IMPRESSES AGAINST KINGS

Ulster full-back Matt Faddes was superb in the 42-17 victory at Isuzu Southern Kings at the weekend, touching down the bonus point try on 29 minutes in a blitz of a first half.

Faddes collected Billy Burns’s cross-field kick superbly for his try, claimed 77 metres in all and made three clean breaks as the Kings struggled to get the handcuffs on him.

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT

Connacht are impressing many neutral supporters in this fledgling campaign and were at it again on Saturday, downing Dragons 38-14 at Rodney Parade with young fly-half Conor Fitzgerald at the heart of things.

The 22-year-old played the conditions in spraying kicks all over the field – 15 from hand a round-topping number – kicked 13 points and pulled the creative strings in the five-try win.

GIBSON-PARK TO THE FORE

Leinster’s battle with Edinburgh at RDS Arena on Friday was a real battle at times, but Leo Cullen’s men eventually pulled through and delivered a storming second half.

Scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park was in the middle of everything, setting up two tries and scoring the very first to get the ball rolling, the Auckland-born No.9 is thriving in Luke McGrath’s absence.

PLAYER OF THE SEASON CONTENDER?

Joseph Dweba deals in man of the match awards and he collected another one, and another try, in the 40-16 victory over Munster that powered the Cheetahs to the top of Conference A.

The hooker is all power, muscles popping out of his arms, but also with impressive game nous that sees him to four tries for the season – Dweba has struck in nine successive Cheetahs matches if you include the Currie Cup.

PARRY POWER

The weekend was notable for a number of big moments in the front row department, chief among them hat-trick hero Sam Parry.

The 27-year-old Ospreys No.2 had a huge hand in the 24-20 victory over Benetton Rugby – who themselves almost pulled off a miraculous late comeback from being 24-6 down having lost Marco Lazzaroni to an early red.

Parry becomes the first forward to score two hat-tricks in Guinness PRO14 history, firing the Ospreys to their first win of the season.
