Europe’s best teams delivered another blockbuster weekend of action as those representing the Guinness PRO14 continued their assault on the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup.

Leinster improved to two wins from two while Ulster also enjoy a 100 per cent record after the opening two rounds following an impressive victory over Clermont Auvergne.

Meanwhile, Dragons were impressive winners in the Challenge Cup as Edinburgh were held to a draw by Bordeaux Begles and Scarlets narrowly lost out to French heavyweights Toulon.

All eyes now return to domestic action for next weekend but before we look forward, here is the full lowdown on the stars who shined brightest in the second round.

Murphy stars in Ulster victory

Ulster’s triumph against Clermont was undoubtedly one of the results of the round as the Irish province edged out their French visitors with a 18-13 victory at Kingspan Stadium.

And no player was more pivotal to the hosts under the Friday night lights than Jordi Murphy, who scored the opening try of the game on 18 minutes to put them on the road to success.

It was not just his contribution in attack that made the difference, though, even if his 42 metres made, two clean breaks and three defenders beaten caused Clermont plenty of problems.

He was also a titan in defence. Back-rower Murphy racked up the joint-most tackles in his team alongside Marcell Coetzee, while only Clermont’s Fritz Lee made more in the game.

Haley runs Racing 92 ragged

Munster showed their fighting spirit in Limerick as they came from behind to claim an improbable draw with Racing 92 and maintain their unbeaten start to the Champions Cup.

Two tries inside the opening 30 minutes from the French outfit left the hosts reeling but Mike Haley produced a man-of-the-match display to haul his team back into the contest.

While he didn’t score a try, the 25-year-old did provide a crucial assist and covered 119m with ball in hand as he also made two clean breaks and defeated eight defenders with his weaving runs.

He didn’t shirk his defensive responsibilities either, making six tackles, as he showed Ireland what he can offer after missing out on selection for the Rugby World Cup.
