**Edinburgh flanker Hamish Watson has been making his mark on the Guinness PRO14 for years and has already made a big impression on the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa.**\n\nThe 27-year-old is among eight Scotland stars in Warren Gatland's squad ahead of a three-Test series against the Springboks which gets under way on July 24. \n\nHere, we take a look back at Watson's route to the highest level.\n\n**Scot at heart**\n\nWatson was born in Manchester and grew up near Macclesfield before joining the Leicester Tigers academy and attending notable rugby breeding ground Oakham School. \n\nBut his allegiances lay with Scotland from a young age courtesy of his Glaswegian grandparents. \n\nHe supported the boys in dark blue from the age of eight and hung a Saltire on his bedroom wall. \n\nWatson moved north at the age of 19 on a Scotland Sevens contract and represented his country at Under-19 and Under-20 level. He joined Edinburgh soon after moving north and made his debut in 2011.
