Guinness PRO14 teams provided plenty of reason to cheer on the first Saturday of European action as the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup returned to the fore. Glasgow Warriors and Ulster both got their campaigns up and running in the top-tier competition with narrow victories over English opponents Sale Sharks and Bath Rugby, respectively. Leinster also prevailed in the all-Guinness PRO14 battle against Benetton at RDS Arena before Munster achieved the same feat by outmuscling Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium. In the Challenge Cup, Cardiff Blues followed Edinburgh’s victory on Friday night by beating Calvisano as Dragons also got off to a winning start and Zebre went down to Bristol Bears. Ulster and Glasgow hold their nerve The lunchtime kick-offs saw both Ulster and Glasgow Warriors test themselves against Premiership sides and the two Guinness PRO14 outfits both dug deep to claim impressive wins. It was the John Cooney show once again in Bath as the Ulster man scored 12 points for his side, including a first-half try, two conversions and a penalty, to decide the game in their favour. Rob Lyttle also crossed for the visitors as Bath’s Freddie Burns, up against his brother Billy, kicked eight points with his boot to add to Gabriel Hamer-Webb’s second-half try. 📷 Rob Lyttle's try superbly captured by @Dicksondigital 👌 pic.twitter.com/XEfJdKou4v— Ulster Rugby (@UlsterRugby) November 16, 2019
