With their victory over Cardiff in round 10, Edinburgh have reached the top of the United Rugby Championship table for the first time since 2009. The Scottish side have had an excellent season so far, losing just one of their eight games in the URC – and even that was to a last-minute drop goal by Benetton. Edinburgh have also made a fighting start to their European campaign. They recorded a famous away win over Saracens in the opening round of the Challenge Cup, and nearly repeated the trick away to London Irish, before losing to a late try. They still have two home games to come in Pool C and a strong chance of qualifying for the knockouts. Having won neither the URC or European honours before, Edinburgh are now firmly among the favourites to bring home silverware this season. What are the driving forces behind this early success?
