Glasgow Warriors will be looking to give outgoing head coach Gregor Townsend the perfect send off in their eagerly anticipated Scottish derby against Edinburgh Rugby.

The Warriors may have failed to reach the Guinness PRO12 semi-finals for the first time in six years but they will be out to wrestle the 1872 Cup out of Edinburgh’s hands for the first time since 2014.

What’s at stake?

Edinburgh could still be caught on points by Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons – who take on Cardiff Blues – but the Scottish side will most likely retain ninth place due to a superior points difference.

But the 1872 Cup will take centre stage as the capital side look to keep hold of the trophy as they have done for the last two seasons.

The Warriors will be feeling confident having won their last three matches at Scotstoun, all with maximum points.

Elsewhere, Zander Fagerson makes his 50th appearance at tight-head and like Hogg will become the youngest player to achieve that feat.

It will be an emotional day at Scotstoun tomorrow as Gordon Reid, Sila Puafisi and Sean Lamont are all set to play their last games for Glasgow.

Edinburgh Rugby team news: Acting Head Coach Duncan Hodge has rung the changes to the backline ahead of the derby with Blair Kinghorn making his first start on the wing and Phil Burleigh returning to inside centre.

Sam Hidalgo-Clyne and Duncan Weir are both promoted from the bench to start as the half-back duo.

Ross Ford starts at hooker, while Jamie Ritchie and John Hardie – who this week penned a new deal with the capital club – are named on the flanks.

Talking points:

There will no doubt be a tear in the eye of Warriors coach Gregor Townsend who will take charge of his 116th and final Guinness PRO12 match.

He said: “We’re really looking forward to the atmosphere which is going to be created at a sold-out Scotstoun tomorrow evening.

“It will be Gordon Reid, Sila Puafisi and Sean Lamont’s last involvement with the club and we’re looking to sending them off on a high. I’m sure all of the leavers will get a good reception from our supporters.

“It should be a cracking game as we’re playing our fiercest rivals and there is a trophy at stake.”

Acting coach Hodge said: “Glasgow are our biggest rivals and we need no bigger motivation than facing them on their home patch.

“We’ve had a good week of preparation going into this game and we’ve got some confidence following our late win against Dragons last week. Although we didn’t perform well on the whole in that game, we showed belief in our ability and a mental resilience to get the win.

“It’s been a challenging season, but we want to finish on a high while playing the open and exciting brand of rugby we’re capable of producing.”

Lions watch:

Fresh from reaching his own century of appearances for the Warriors, Tommy Seymour will be making his final appearance of the season before joining up with the British and Irish Lions.

The winger has been in fine form this season and will be looking to sign off in style ahead of his maiden tour with the Lions.

Glasgow also boasts another member of Warren Gatland’s squad in Stuart Hogg who will be making his historic 100^th appearance at Scotstoun.
