Owen Jenkins and Ellis Jenkins may be in line for their first ever RaboDirect PRO12 starts this Saturday but Cardiff Blues’ Phil Davies wants 100 per cent concentration from his entire squad when they travel to face Benetton Treviso.

The Blues slipped to their fifth defeat of the season last time out when three first-half Munster tries did the damage in a 31-10 loss.

Keen to bounce back in Italy, Davies has rung the changes with Wales Sevens and U-21 winger Owen Jenkins making his first Blues appearance and namesake Ellis called up at openside flanker.

Also in line for a first start of the season is hooker Rhys Williams, with Macauley Cook moving into the back row following the return of Filo Paulo from international duty with Samoa.

But while Gareth Davies and Dan Fish both return, prop Scott Andrews and Lloyd Williams miss out through injury and illness respectively.

The Welsh outfit have not won away from home in the RaboDirect PRO12 since downing Edinburgh in February but do boast an impressive record in Italy of eight wins and one loss in all competitions.

And insisting his side had learned their lessons from the Munster defeat, Davies wants his young side to put their best foot forward against their Italian opposition.

"We played some good rugby in the first 20 minutes against Munster, then we switched off at end of the half and they were very clinical," said Davies.

"With the quality of players they had they took the chances. There are periods of time in each game where we seem to switch off and the opposition capitalise. We only missed eight tackles in the game, which is lowest this season, but four cost us points.

"We came back in the second half and played reasonably well. Now we have to build on that in Italy. We are working hard and it's about building the experience up in a young squad to become a better team."

With Italy’s autumn internationals wrapping up last week, Treviso welcome back a host of names to their side as they look to turn the tables on three narrow defeats on the spin.

Christian Loamanu and Michele Campagnaro start in a new look centre partnership while in the back row openside flanker Dean Budd joins forces with Manoa Vosawai and Alessandro Zanni.

Angelo Esposito, scorer of a try in last week’s 21-20 loss to Leinster retains his place, but there is no room for Edoardo Gori or James Ambrosini who drop to the bench, with Matt Berquist and Tobias Botes getting the nod.

Treviso’s defeat last week was only the second home defeat in the tournament since November 2012, whilst they have secured at least one league point from each of their last 11 games at Stadio Monigo.

And having worked around his returning internationals, coach Franco Smith believes they can get back to winning ways against the Blues.

"We're very frustrated at the points we lost against Leinster so we want to make up for it against Cardiff,” said Smith.

“We've had to see how the internationals are after their games with Italy and work from there in terms of the team.

"I think that we could have held on to the ball more against Leinster. With experience we'll make the right decisions and that was costly. In the past we've had luck on our side, last weekend it was against us. That's how it goes sometimes.”
