Gregor Townsend may be welcoming back Stuart Hogg but the Glasgow Warriors head coach is still not taking Friday’s RaboDirect PRO12 opponents Newport Gwent Dragons lightly. Hogg returns at full-back after spending the past six weeks out, while 21-year-old Finn Russell will make his first start for the club as he lines-up at centre alongside DTH van der Merwe. The Warriors' only defeat in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season was 6-13 at home to Munster in round six, and they have lost only once to a Welsh region in their last nine such encounters – 6-29 at Scarlets in April. But while his side have impressed so far this term with six wins from seven games, Townsend isn’t resting on his laurels. “The Dragons have started the season well and I believe they’ve performed much better than their league position suggests,” said Townsend. “We’re under no illusions as to how difficult tomorrow night’s game will be. “We’re delighted to welcome Stuart back from injury, especially with a number of players away on international duty. “It is also an opportunity for other members of the squad to put their hands up for selection over the coming weeks.” Newport Gwent Dragons have lost their last two RaboDirect PRO12 matches to Ospreys and Leinster and have not won away from home in any tournament since visiting Zebre in February. The Dragons have been defeated in their last four clashes with Scottish opponents and in order to rectify that long-standing second row Rob Sidoli will once again take on the responsibility of captain. The Welsh outfit still have a number of players unavailable, though, and head physiotherapist Ben Searle had mixed news on the injury front. He said: “Rhys Thomas is back in light training after injuring his ankle a few weeks ago, hopefully he will be back available for selection in two weeks or so. Darren Waters is progressing well and will also be back in training soon. “Jonathan Evans picked up a shoulder injury against Wasps and it looks like he will be out for around six weeks or so. Luc Jones also picked up an injury last weekend so he is out at the moment. “Jack Dixon still has a long way to go, but is again progressing well and Adam Hughes has a foot injury and will be out for two to three weeks. “Tom Prydie picked up a hamstring strain whilst training with Wales so he will be out for around four to six weeks and Lewis Robling will also be out for four to six after minor key hole surgery on his knee for a clean out.” At Scotstoun Stadium, 7.35pm Referee: Peter Fitzgibbon (IRFU, 51st competition game) Assistant Referees: Neil Paterson, Stephen Hart (both SRU) Citing Commissioner: John Kirk (SRU)
