Newport Gwent Dragons winger Ashton Hewitt says he’s developed enormously from this year’s exposure to GUINNESS PRO12 rugby – but he wants to cut out the mistakes in Friday’s clash against Edinburgh.

The 20-year-old has made five appearances in the league this term, including the Dragons' 29-10 defeat to the Scarlets on Judgement Day, which ended a three game winning run.

Despite that setback, Newport Gwent Dragons have won their last three matches at Rodney Parade in all competitions since losing there to Connacht in the PRO12 on February 22.

The Men from Gwent and Edinburgh have already met twice this season, with the Scottish outfit taking both victories – in round 6 of the PRO12 in October, and the semi-final of the European Challenge Cup in April.

Indeed, the Dragons have not beaten Edinburgh in any tournament since September 2012 but Hewitt insists they can amend that record – if they get back to basics.

"We created chances (against the Scarlets) but didn't execute with fumbles, inaccurate passes and kicks,” Hewitt said.

"We do cause damage and split teams but when it comes down to it we need to score the points.

"I am looking forward to pre-season and getting stuck into next year's games, hopefully making even more appearances.

"This season has been massive for me in the transition from the academy to the senior environment.

"It's a big change and I have improved quite a lot in most aspects of my game and feel I've come on quite a bit."

Versatile back Tom Prydie moves across to full-back as young guns Hewitt and Hallam Amos take to the wings.

The half-backs are all change as Jason Tovey replaces Dorian Jones and Luc Jones will make his first GUINNESS PRO12 start as scrum-half.

The front row has one change made to it as hooker T. Rhys Thomas returns to the fold while, in the second row, Cory Hill comes in.

The back row has two changes made to it as flankers Nick Crosswell and Nic Cudd return to play alongside Dragons No.8 Taulupe Faletau.

Edinburgh, who narrowly missed out on winning a first piece of European silverware with their 19-13 defeat by Gloucester at Twickenham Stoop on Friday, make four changes to the side.

Returning from injury at full-back is Jack Cuthbert, while Stuart McInally moves up from the bench to start on the blindside and will lead the side.

The other two changes come in the pack with Hamish Watson starting at openside, while Fraser McKenzie comes in at lock.

Edinburgh’s only loss in their last four GUINNESS PRO12 matches came at home to Munster in round 19 and they have won their last three away games in all tournaments.

They have lost just once in their last seven encounters with Welsh opposition but head coach Alan Solomons is under no illusions as to the task at hand.

He said: “Coming off the back of the European Challenge Cup Final, especially with the Dragons having had a fixture-free week and playing at home at Rodney Parade – a notoriously difficult venue – this will be a tough encounter."
