Two sides in need of a result do battle in South Wales as Isuzu Southern Kings end their current European tour with a trip to Ospreys.

The hosts have won only once so far this season – a 24-20 triumph over Benetton Rugby back in Round 3 – while the Kings are yet to get off the mark, the sides sitting sixth and seventh in Conference A and B respectively.

Whilst still without their Welsh internationals – the likes of Alun Wyn Jones, George North and Justin Tipuric all recovering from their Rugby World Cup exploits – Allen Clarke has handed starts to summer signing Shaun Venter and Namibian international Lesley Klim – both of whom will feature at the Liberty Stadium for the first time.

The Kings, meanwhile, have been made to re-jig after a number of injuries hampered Robbi Kempson’s selection.

While neither JC Astle nor Rossouw de Klerk will travel, the South Africans welcome back skipper Howard Mnisi, while Scott van Breda – on a short-term loan deal from the Worcester Warriors – gets the nod in the back three.

Ospreys and the Kings have shipped 159 and 190 points respectively in five matches of Guinness PRO14 action so far this season.

The neutrals will hope, therefore, for a points fest, and the Kings certainly have the fire power to deliver.

An explosive back three of Josiah Twum-Boafo, Christopher Hollis and the aforementioned van Breda will be augmented by the return of key man and skipper Mnisi in the midfield.

The Ospreys will hope that Venter’s maiden home outing at scrum-half will yield a greater control of things, that the experienced South African can help them keep hold of the ball and limit the Kings’ attacking opportunities.

Key stat: Kings are still yet to record a victory on the road in the Championship, whilst their only previous victory anywhere against a Welsh region was 45-13 at home to Dragons in March 2018.
