Ospreys have not trotted out onto the Liberty Stadium pitch for more than a month but head coach Steve Tandy is backing his side to put on a triumphant homecoming against Treviso on Sunday.

Six players make their return from international duty including Dan Biggar and Rhys Webb – who will be making his 100th appearance for the Welsh region – partnering in the half-backs.

Forwards Ryan Bevington, James King and Dan Baker also retake their place in the pack, while Ashley Beck forms a centre partnership with captain Jonathan Spratt.

Not since an Anglo-Welsh Cup against Northampton Saints on January 12 have Ospreys played at the Liberty and after a tightly-fought 10-7 loss to Ulster last week, Tandy expects a big performance from his side.

“It’s good to be heading back to the Liberty after five weeks away,” he said. “There has been plenty to like about the performances in recent weeks, with a largely young group of players setting about the job in the absence of our international contingent.

“They’ve shown a good attitude, a desire to play in a positive way, and have shown an understanding of how we are trying to take our game,

“After the win against Sale in Bridgend it was a different kind of challenge out in Ulster last week, and we were very unlucky to have to settle for a losing bonus.

“It was particularly pleasing to see a squad missing more than 20 players through injury and international duty really going toe-to-toe with a far more experienced, star-studded team.

“With a little more composure, a little more experience, we could have snatched a well deserved win at the death which would have been a fantastic boost for us going into back-to-back home games.

“Treviso will provide us with a tough challenge and we know that we’ll need to sharpen up from where we were last weekend.”

Treviso will be aiming to beat Ospreys at the seventh time of asking in Wales, having failed to pick up a single bonus point across all six of those games.

The task ahead is made all the harder for the Italians knowing they have only won once on their RaboDirect PRO12 travels since December 2012.

However, head coach Marius Goosen’s immediate attention is upon improvement following a high-octane 41-33 home defeat against Scarlets last time out.

He said: “We're not too concerned about who the next game is against. The focus for us has to be on cutting out the mistakes that we made against the Scarlets.

“It would be difficult to be happy, but I'm not angry either (about the Scarlets game). I'm more disappointed.

“But having not played for the last two weeks, it was difficult to get up to speed. We showed in the last 20 minutes how we can play but we need to be able to do that for the full game.

“We'll have to cope without a few of our Italian internationals again, but we just have to get on with it and try to improve.”
