Cardiff Blues kept their Magners League hopes on course on Friday night with a win over bottom placed Border Reivers.

Despite the Scottish side scoring two tries in quick succession to take the lead it was the Blues who held all the aces, and they eased to what was in the end a comfortable win.

Mosese Luveitasau and Tom Shanklin scored early tries for the visitors but the Border Reivers, playing in one of their last matches were not to be dismissed lightly with first Kelly Brown and then Gregor Townsend scoring – with the two conversions from Townsend and Steve Jones giving the home side a two point lead.

However The Blues stepped up the pressure and both Luveitasau and Shanklin scored again to secure the bonus point before the break.
Borders were dealt an added blow two minutes after the restart as skipper Chris Cusiter went off with ankle problem as the Blues turned on the power in the final quarter to add a penalty try and two Rhys Shellard scoresto complete the maximum point win.
