Try doubles from Gareth Davies and Liam Williams helped Scarlets secure a clinical 43-0 bonus-point victory over Benetton Treviso and their first win of the GUINNESS PRO12 season.

After following an opening-day draw against Ulster with a heavy 42-12 defeat away to Leinster last week, the Welsh region showed great determination in scoring seven tries against their Italian opponents at Parc y Scarlets.

Emyr Phillips touched down in the first minute of his 100^th appearance for the club before Davies exploited his side’s set-piece dominance to score two first-half tries, with the hosts leading 19-0 at the break.

Scarlets full-back Williams then scored twice in four minutes, either side of a Johan Snyman try as the Welsh side built up an imposing 36-0 lead while Treviso had Matthew Luamanu in the bin.

Wayne Pivac’s side then showed a ruthless streak missing in their first two games as they continued to attack with centre Gareth Owen going over late on and Rhys Priestland adding the extras.

Scarlets’ determination to claim their maiden win was immediately evident as hooker Phillips, replacing injured captain Ken Owens, touched down with Welsh international Priestland converting.

After the fly-half missed a penalty attempt, the Welsh region scored their second try on 17 minutes, Snyman claiming a lineout before deft hands from Aaron Shingler sent scrum-half Davies over in the corner.

Stand-in captain Scott Williams then burst through a gap in the Italians’ defence with Owen on his shoulder only for the ball to be lost forward as Williams attempted to offload to his fellow centre.

The visitors enjoyed a rare spell of possession in their opponent’s 22 but encountered a resolute Scarlets defence before eventually knocking on at the breakdown.

Priestland made no mistake from the tee after Davies’ second score just before half-time as Scarlets won a scrum against the head, with the half-back opportunistically kicking ahead and winning the footrace to help his side to a 19-0 lead at the break.

Within five minutes of the restarts Treviso saw their fortunes worsen as Luamanu was sent to the sin bin before Harry Robinson’s long pass found Liam Williams to score, with Priestland missing another conversion.

The hosts remained ruthless in attack as man of the match Shingler’s forceful carry set up Snyman to cross before Williams claimed his second try and Scarlets’ sixth overall.

After a manic start to the second half, Scarlets removed Davies and Liam Williams but soon scored their seventh try as Owen was rewarded for his enterprising performance, with the occasionally errant Priestland adding the extras.
