Ulster’s hopes of defending their Magners League title were left in tatters on Friday night after Glasgow Warriors scored a 24-10 win over the Irish Provence at Ravenhill. Three tries from Rory Lamont, John Barclay and John Beattie, gave the visitors the points with a thoroughly deserved win. They had led 10-0 at the interval with Rory Lamont scoring a try which Dan parks converted to add to his earlier penalty.Ulster did claw back some ground with a an Andrew Trimble try , but even the introduction of David Humphreys couldn’t help as he threw out a speculative pass which Beattie gathered to romp home from 75 metres out.Parks converted both that try and Barclay’s effort after seventy minutes to make it 24-5 – with Andrew Maxwell’s late try scant consolation as the champions grip on their title slipped away.
