Ben Cairns ensures his first competitive start helps his side triumph over the champions Ulster. Although Ulster gained the early advantage, the Gunners scored an eighth minute drop-goal to break their duck.Trying to play on this success the Gunners put together some dangerous looking moves and managed to get in front when Chris Paterson knocked over a penalty. This was followed by another Paterson goal extending the lead to six points.The increasing pressure from Ulster paid off and two quick penalties brought the match to a tie. Another penalty from Paterson and Cairns running through to score a try ensured that the Gunners entered half time with some momentum.After the restart a fourth penalty gave Ulster’s David Humphreys the chance to reduce the lead to five points, which he took up and then followed again midway through the half.With all this tension in the final part of the game it came down to the Gunners Captain Paterson to ensure victory with a calm kick over.
