Despite scoring the only try of the match the Border Reivers were consigned to defeat by the kicking of Jeremy Manning who scored three penalties to give Munster their first victory of the Magners League campaign.

The first half saw few scoring opportunities and although Chris Cusiter was lively for the visitors nether side were able to gain the upper hand.
Calum MacRae gave the Reivers the lead with a penalty after 20 minutes hover after an early miss Manning’s first two successful kicks saw the home side take a half time lead. After another miss early in the second period he was able to extend the lead 10 minutes into the second half.

The Reivers hit back with younger winger Mark Robertson scoring the game’s only try on his professional debut. However McRae was unable to add the extras from a conversion wide out and Munster were able to hang on to take the spoils.
