Aaron Shingler and Hadleigh Parkes crossed over before the break as Scarlets took advantage of a depleted Glasgow Warriors to end their 20-match winning run at Scotstoun in the GUINNESS PRO12.

No club in world rugby has had more players called up for the Rugby World Cup than the Warriors and it showed in the early stages, as the visitors flew out the blocks.

John Barclay – against his former club – and James Davies thrived at the breakdown as Shingler and captain Parkes each scored in the opening 20 minutes.

Mike Cusack and, late on, Glenn Bryce did each score for the Warriors but it was not enough as the inconsistent boot of Dan Jones kept them at bay, earning the Scarlets a 16-10 win and their fifth GUINNESS PRO12 triumph on the bounce.

Scarlets were first on the board after just four minutes, the visitors building early pressure and Shingler capitalising to pile over, though Jones sent the conversion wide.

The hosts took their turn to create a period of pressure but not only did they miss the chance to take advantage, Gregor Townsend was also forced to re-shuffle after Rory Hughes was taken off injured.

With debutant Robbie Ferguson taking his place and Peter Murchie shifted to full-back, Glasgow lost some momentum and halfway through the opening period they were further behind.

Quick hands from Regan King ensured the ball found its way to Parkes on the wing and he swooped across the line, only for a second Jones conversion to go begging.

Jones sought to correct his hesitant start by pointing for the posts when Glasgow conceded a penalty in their own half on 25 minutes but that too missed the target.

He did, however, send a simpler effort over three minutes later after Grayson Hart was sent to the sin-bin for a dangerous tackle on King.

Glasgow ended the first-half on the front foot and Scott Wright kicked for the corner when the posts were in range, but it came to nothing and the Scarlets went into the break 13-0 up.

The hosts emerged from the break with a renewed energy and began to probe their way deep into Scarlets territory, Cusack eventually piling over amid a mass of bodies.

The decision was sent up to the TMO and the try awarded and, though Wright’s conversion crept wide, Glasgow could sense an opportunity.

Jones edged the Scarlets further ahead after 54 minutes when he sent a second penalty between the uprights and that prompted Townsend to call on his reinforcements, Rory Clegg, Mike Blair and Tyrone Holmes taking to the field.

They continued to control proceedings but resilient Scarlets defence ensured the Warriors went into the final ten minutes still 11 points adrift of their visitors.

They opted for a scrum penalty seven minutes from time and, after Rob Evans was shown a yellow card, the bombardment continued.

Adam Ashe was halted just short of the line but there was no such frustration for Bryce, who was one hand to cross over when the ball was spread wide.

However, debutant Clegg missed the conversion and there was no time for a winning try.
