The visitors scored 16 points in the final quarter to snatch victory in dramatic fashion. There was a star turn from Edinburgh outside-half Brendan Laney, he notched two penalties and a drop goal in the final moments to secure a 25-16 win for the Gunners.

Laney began and ended the scoring, his first drop goal had given the Gunners the lead in the opeing minutes but Glasgow responded when lock Andy Hall easily outjumped Craig Joiner on the far touchline and pounced to touch down following an excellent crossfield kick from Dan Parks.

Edinburgh bounced back with a Laney penalty from 35 metres but Parks replied in identical style a few minutes later.Glasgow ended the half the stronger and the Gunners were lucky to escape with no more damage before the interval than a Parks drop goal.

But the Warriors suffered a double setback immediately after the restart when Don Macfadyen marked his 100th appearance by being sinbinned for a professional foul. Laney stepped up to knock over the resulting easy penalty to give the Gunners fresh hope.

But it was their turn to sustain a blow five minutes later when centre Ally Dickson was stretchered off with a serious-looking knee problem.

Edinburgh then went within inches of blowing the contest wide open, with Glasgow indebted to Sean Lamont for pulling off a remarkable last-gasp tackle on Hugo Southwell.Laney had released skipper Todd Blackadder with a beautifully delivered pass before Marcus Di Rollo raced deep into enemy territory.

Southwell looked certain to score but Lamont appeared from nowhere to haul him down just short of the target.

The home defence did not have an answer two minutes later, however, when Dickson’s deputy Philip darted over for the touchdown – giving Laney a simple conversion to equalise before he went on to finish the job.
