It was another weekend with just the solitary Guinness PRO14 fixture as Toyota Cheetahs toppled Isuzu Southern Kings, but as ever, that did little to diminish the Championship’s rumours, gossip and speculation.

Cheetahs dotted down seven tries in Bloemfontein as hooker Joseph Dweba helped himself to a brace, and head coach Hawies Fourie believes his players would have grown in confidence after their resurgent 45-0 victory.

And it was South African derby day disappointment once again for Kings, as Robbi Kempson hailed his side’s opponents for executing some clinical rugby at the Toyota Stadium.

There were also murmurs over in Europe, as Edinburgh announced the signing of Exeter Chiefs lock Stan South on a short-term loan deal.

And Richard Cockerill is hoping the 23-year-old can help strengthen his team in an area he believes they lack depth, as they prepare to take on Scarlets when the Championship returns.

Down to Wales next, where Ospreys hit the headlines for two players appearing at company Motorpoint’s new used car supermarket in Swansea to kick-start business at the venue.

Matthew Aubrey and Cory Allen were the pair of stars on display at the new facility, delighting staff as the 500-car store was opened to the public.

And staying in Wales, Cardiff Blues have been boosted by the signing of Bristol Bears winger Ryan Edwards until the end of the season.

John Mulvihill’s side are currently without Owen Lane, Hallam Amos, Matthew Morgan, Aled Summerhill, Harri Millard and Josh Adams – who is on Wales duty – with the 29-year-old providing cover for the Blues’ multiple absentees.

And over at Dragons, Wales Online are reporting that Leicester Tigers have joined the race to sign Wales international Ross Moriarty, as the flanker approaches the end of his contract in Newport.

The 25-year-old has also attracted alleged interest from French sides Lyon, Montpellier and Lyon, with Welsh teams Blues and Ospreys also emerging as potential destinations for the back rower.
