With the 2010-2019 decade having come to an end, it’s time for the Guinness PRO14 clubs to turn their focus to their first challenge of the 2020s in Round 10.

It’s no use reminiscing anymore with derby clashes approaching aplenty, giving players, coaches and fans alike plenty to consider as they aim for a winning start.

One team certainly looking to get their year off positively would be the unbeaten Conference A table toppers Leinster, so in the first Media Watch of the year, we start in the Irish province.

Leo Cullen’s side have barely missed a beat this season, sitting atop of the standings on 42 points and will be confident of keeping their record intact when they welcome Connacht on Saturday, who suffered two festive defeats to Munster and Ulster.

But forwards’ coach Robin McBryde is refusing to take anything for granted.

Not only will Leinster still be without Johnny Sexton, who is still recovering from a knee injury, but they’ll have to find a way of remaining unbeaten without centre Rory O’Loughlin too, who has been ruled out for the foreseeable future.

They aren’t the only team with injury concerns, as Ulster see a reduction in the pack ahead of this weekend’s visit of Munster.

Marcell Coetzee (concussion), Louis Ludik (ankle ligament injury) and Angus Curtis (ACL) are all unavailable for the fixture.

Munster will be looking to extend their lead at the top of Conference B in the clash, but have been suffering from some injury troubles of their own.

Back in Wales, Dragons fly-half Sam Davey give his thoughts on the clash against Ospreys as Dean Ryan’s side aim to extend their run of home derby victories to five.

Elsewhere, Cardiff Blues will be boosted by the return of Nick Williams, who is available after a leg injury for Friday’s Guinness PRO14 derby with Scarlets.

Meanwhile in Scotland, Glasgow Warriors assistant coach Kenny Murray is considering Saturday’s trip to Benetton as a ‘must-win’ after last weekend’s 1872 Cup defeat to Edinburgh.
