International recognition was inevitable and after making five appearances for Scotland U20s, Hogg gained his first senior cap against Wales in the 2012 Six Nations.

Possessing of lightning-fast pace and with an ability to always get to the outside man before breaking the line or playing in a teammate, the tries flowed both domestically and internationally.

“Hoggy is probably one of the best I’ve ever played with,” commented current teammate and fellow back Huw Jones. “Everything he does he does to the best of his ability.”

Hogg went on tour to Australia with the British & Irish Lions in 2013 as his influence with the Warriors increased, helping fire the club to their miraculous 2014-15 title-winning campaign four years ago.

The full-back also helped power Glasgow’s run to a first-ever European quarter-final in ²⁰¹⁶⁄₁₇, whilst in the dark blue of Scotland he was named Six Nations Player of the Championship in both 2016 and 2017.

The youngest player ever to reach 100 caps for the Warriors, Hogg reached the milestone against Edinburgh at Scotstoun in May 2017 aged just 24.

He would go on tour with the Lions again in 2017 but cruelly was deprived of a Test cap owing to injury after two provincial games.

For Glasgow, 30 tries have come in 119 appearances while for Scotland he has struck with 19 in 67, a hero on both fronts.

Glasgow head coach Dave Rennie is of course a fan: “He’s a fantastic player, as we know. He’s really passionate about playing for his club.

“He’s been here a lot of years, he’s got a lot of mates here and he’s desperate to go out on a high note.”
