Pack the fridge, shut the curtains and settle in – because there is feast of rugby to watch this weekend.

The World Cup semi-finals provide two tantalising match-ups, with South Africa and Wales doing battle on Sunday, while we also have a mouth-watering slate of Guinness PRO14 fixtures.

There really is no reason to leave your sofa!

The most intriguing clash comes in Galway, where the red-hot Toyota Cheetahs go on the road for the first time this season at Connacht. Can they maintain their flying start?

The league’s two other unbeaten sides, Leinster and Scarlets, are also on the road, while Benetton or Isuzu Southern Kings face off in a bid for their first wins of the season.

Munster v Ospreys

Munster at home are as sure a bet as you are likely to find in the Guinness PRO14, so they start as heavy favourites against an Ospreys side that has lost two of three so far.

The Munstermen have not suffered defeat in a domestic home game in near two years but, in a small crumb of comfort, Ospreys are instead heading for Irish Independent Park, Munster’s second home.

It was there that they last beat Johann van Graan’s side in a 21-17 success in February 2016, although they have not toppled them since – losing seven on the spin.

Despite packing a mean punch, Munster should have too much for Ospreys again.

Ulster v Cardiff Blues

This is another match that sees an Irish side with two wins from three hosts a Welsh team with just a single success so far this season.

Ulster have been one of the great entertainers in the first three rounds, with 106 points scored and 94 conceded, and the Kingspan faithful should strap in again for an attacking feast.

With wing Craig Gilroy back scoring tries following a year out injured and Ulster unbeaten at home in a dozen games, the Blues face a tall task.

Benetton v Isuzu Southern Kings

Since reaching the Guinness PRO14 Finals Series last season, things have gone a little pear-shaped for Benetton Rugby.

The Italian side lost many of their stars to the Rugby World Cup and the results are there for all to see: three matches, three defeats.

However with some of those players set to return in this game, Benetton will be confident they can avoid a fifth straight league loss.

Although full of speed and creativity, the Kings are yet to win on the road in the Guinness PRO14 and it’s hard to see them starting here.

Dragons v Glasgow Warriors

Glasgow Warriors are not used to being behind Dragons in the standings, but that’s where they find themselves three rounds into the new season.

This is a huge game for the hosts, as they seek to end a winless home run that stretches back to December 2018. Glasgow have also started slowly this season but should be boosted by some of their returning World Cup stars at Rodney Parade.

The Dragons revolution will take time to work under Dean Ryan, while the Warriors are a mighty machine when at full power. They should sneak this one.

Zebre v Leinster

The champions are chasing a Guinness PRO14 record this weekend as they aim to be the first side to start their title defence with a maximum 20 points.

To do that, they must secure a bonus-point win at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi and history is on their side. Their only defeat to an Italian team since 2010 came at home to Benetton last season.

Zebre have also conceded more than 50 points in all three matches so far, so don’t back against Leinster adding their names to the history books again.

Connacht v Toyota Cheetahs

After three magical weekends, the real test starts now for Toyota Cheetahs.

The Conference A leaders average more than 50 points per game and have thrilled with a brand of dazzling, attacking rugby against Glasgow Warriors, Ulster and Munster.

But travelling away from home has always proven tricky for the South African teams and many around the league will be watching with interest here. Beat a sturdy, street-wise Connacht on the road and they could well be legitimate contenders this year.

The Irish province have made a hot start themselves, with two wins from three, and are traditionally hard to topple at the Sportsground.

But the Cheetahs have momentum and we’ll edge this one to them.

Edinburgh v Scarlets

The Brad Mooar era could hardly have started better for Scarlets and they visit the Scottish capital in fine fettle as they put their unbeaten start on the line.

Win in Edinburgh and they will have secured four victories on the spin for the first time since November 2017, while they have not won the first four matches of a season since 2015-16.

However, Edinburgh are a force to be reckoned with in Conference B and have won two of their three matches so far this year.

Scarlets have already crossed Hadrian’s Wall and emerged with the points once this season but Edinburgh have lost just twice at home in 18 months – and it’s them we’re picking this week.
