Add to that a young Leinster man moving south to Munster to play in the cauldron that is Thomond Park with a bunch of players sworn enemies on most match days other than those when all are wearing green

Joey Carbery’s move to Munster must have felt all the more verified in Round 5 of the Guinness PRO 14 against interprovincial visitors Ulster. His side finding their way across the try line after only 5 minutes and adding a second on the eight-minute mark allowing Carbery to find his range early.

And find his range he did, successfully converting all of his kicks from the tee to include a penalty and five conversions. His last conversion to be courteous of his own try, a weaving backline manoeuvre that took all of Carbery’s ball handling skills to tame once finding its way to him and racing through the centre of the field and under the posts for his first try at Thomond Park.

Moments later Carbery would leave the field to rapturous applause and cult hero status. Upon the final whistle, he would also be named man of the match such was his display on the night. It was a fantastic display from Munster, one that would show their intent to push all the way this season, and for Carbery to show his worth to the faithful red army.
