The Guinness PRO14 is back with a bang this weekend as Round 7 comes into view after a European fortnight.

The game of the weekend sees a Guinness PRO14 Final rematch between Glasgow Warriors and Leinster at Scotstoun while there are a pair of big Friday night encounters in Cork and Belfast.

Elsewhere Benetton and Cardiff Blues will be looking to bounce back from heartbreaking European defeats while the Toyota Cheetahs look to improve their away record.

FRIDAY

MUNSTER V EDINBURGH

Conference B leaders Munster have only lost once, in any competition, this season but they face an Edinburgh team who have enjoyed a fine start of their own.

Both teams come into the game off the back of home draws and with just five points separating them in Conference B, this game could have huge implications come the end of the season.

Players to look out for: Ben Healy shone for Ireland Under-20s earlier this year with Harry Byrne injured, and the fly-half will get his chance for Munster on Friday night when he is handed the No.10 jersey at Irish Independent Park. Meanwhile Edinburgh will be hoping for more of the same from Duhan van der Merwe who has made a strong start to the season and has scored a double in two of his last three games against Munster.

Fast fact: Edinburgh last won away to Munster in 2014, while their only previous victory in Cork came in 2004.

ULSTER V SCARLETS

Ulster have been exceptional at home for more than a year and can cement their place as Final Series contenders against the Scarlets at the Kingspan on Friday night.

Having seen off Clermont in Belfast a week ago, Dan McFarland’s team will be looking to kick on, although they will be without the injured Billy Burns and suspended Will Addison for the game.

The Scarlets will be looking to bounce back from their last-gasp defeat to Toulon in the Challenge Cup.

Players to look out for: John Cooney has been in flying form to start the season and scored the match-winning try in the victory over Clermont. Meanwhile the Scarlets will be hopeful that Uzair Cassiem can make an impact in the absence of their Welsh internationals.

Fast fact: Ulster’s last defeat at home came in October 2018 to Connacht.

SATURDAY

BENETTON RUGBY V CARDIFF BLUES

Benetton and Cardiff Blues were both on the wrong end of last-minute penalties last time out in Europe, and will be looking to make amends on their return to Guinness PRO14 action.

Benetton have started to rebuild after a slow start to the season, and will be looking to extend a fine recent run against Welsh opposition in Treviso. The Blues, meanwhile, know that an away win here would get them right back in the Final Series hunt.

Players to look out for: Hame Faiva scored two tries in the narrow loss to Northampton Saints and the Kiwi hooker will be a key man for Benetton against the Blues. For the Welsh, Willis Halaholo’s injury means that Rey Lee-Lo is without his usual partner in crime in the midfield, but the Samoan star should still thrive and was excellent against Leicester Tigers.

Fast fact: Benetton have won their last seven home games against Welsh opposition since Cardiff Blues beat them in 2016.

CONNACHT V ISUZU SOUTHERN KINGS

Connacht had a chance to add Toulouse to their collection of scalps this season, eventually losing 32-17 in a game they led after an hour.

They will look to put that right against a Kings team who are still buzzing from a first-ever away win in the Guinness PRO14. That success against the Ospreys was built on a fast start and they will be looking for more of the same in Galway.

Players to look out for: Colby Fainga’a has not featured much in the Guinness PRO14 this season, but he was back and firing in Europe, making a big impression in the clash away in Toulouse. He will be key for Connacht, while the Kings will be hoping that Scott van Breda can make a big impact as he continues his loan spell from Worcester Warriors.

Fast fact: The Kings picked up their first-ever away win in the Guinness PRO14 in their last game against the Ospreys.

DRAGONS V ZEBRE

The Dragons are the only Guinness PRO14 team with two wins from two in the Challenge Cup, and they have the chance to improve their domestic record at home to Zebre. The Dragons ended their long wait for an away win with a thumping success in Parma earlier this season, but Zebre were much-improved in a one-point loss to Stade Français last time out.

Players to look out for: With some of their Wales internationals absent, Dean Ryan will be calling on his Dragons youngsters to kick on from the success in Russia last weekend, with Will Talbot-Davies one of the standout performers. He could go head to head with Mattia Bellini, the Italy international who has two tries in four matches since returning from the World Cup.

Fast fact: The Dragons have won their last two games against Zebre and all six meetings between the sides at Rodney Parade.

GLASGOW WARRIORS V LEINSTER

The Guinness PRO14 Final rematch is across town at Scotstoun as Glasgow Warriors look to exact a measure of revenge against Leinster. Leo Cullen’s side are still unbeaten this season in all competitions, and can open up a bigger gap at the top of Conference A with a victory over Glasgow.

It will not be easy though, with the Warriors having bounced back from a slow start to the season to win three of their last four in the Guinness PRO14.

Players to look out for: Nick Grigg is perennially underrated but scored a very good try in last week’s defeat to Exeter Chiefs, and will be crucial in trying to break down the Leinster midfield. Leinster, meanwhile, have the outstanding Ronan Kelleher at hooker, with the youngster seemingly first choice in the absence of Sean Cronin after a strong start to the campaign.

Fast fact: Leinster have only won once at Scotstoun, 6-0 on their first visit back in 2012.

OSPREYS V TOYOTA CHEETAHS

The Ospreys return to the Gnoll looking to put their European struggles behind them against a Toyota Cheetahs team still searching for a first away win of the season. The Cheetahs came close against both Connacht and the Scarlets, and know that they will need to turn those narrow losses into wins if they are to finish in the top three in Conference A.

Players to look out for: Marvin Orie has slotted straight in at the Ospreys and the Springbok international will be crucial against his compatriots. The Cheetahs will be hoping that Rhyno Smith can maintain his fine scoring form so far this season.

Fast fact: This is the first Ospreys game at the Gnoll since 2005, when they beat Edinburgh 29-12.
