Round 4 of the Guinness PRO14 had absolutely everything, from last-gasp wins to held-off fightbacks and hat-trick heroes somewhere in between.

For anyone who missed any of the action – here’s how it went down.

Leinster stay perfect

Leinster fans rejoice, your team are now the only undefeated side left in Guinness PRO14, sitting atop Conference A with 19 points and with a whole host of youngsters who’ve impressed in the first four rounds.

The memo about high-scoring games obviously didn’t quite come through though, as defences most definitely had their day in the 3-0 victory at Zebre – Ross Byrne’s boot the difference on the scoreboard.

One to keep an eye on this season also – young hooker Marco Manfredi bulldozed his way to his first try against Scarlets in Round 3 and was man of the match here – his 16 tackles helping to keep that score starkly low.

Double-Century as Keatley plots maiden Benetton win

What a day for Benetton fly-half Ian Keatley, who on his 200th Guinness PRO14 appearance (the only back to hit this milestone) was at the heart of his side’s maiden victory with 14 points.

Keatley, who won man of the match, touched down in the corner before half-time and created another try, seeing the space for Juan Ignacio to score the crucial fourth.

Isuzu Southern Kings never gave up though, Rossouw de Klerk’s try in the 65th minute gave them momentum and late scores from Christopher Hollis and Bobby de Wee left Siya Masuku’s boot to secure a valuable losing bonus point.

Ryan’s Express

The Dragons revolution is real! Fourth in Conference A on nine points and an 18-5 win over last year’s finalists Glasgow Warriors secured in confident style.

Conditions made it difficult for both sides to put any flowing rugby together but two tries early in the second half ensured the Welshmen stayed above their matchday rivals in the conference.

Ashton Hewitt had a crucial hand in things, searing through the middle of the Glasgow defence to set up a score for Taine Basham and then touching down minutes later himself – No.8 Ollie Griffiths was also magnificent on the day.

Farrell’s cheeky smile

No doubt Connacht replacement Tom Farrell will have a smile on his face today, the super-sub coming off the bench to grab two tries in the last minutes to down the Cheetahs.

The Bloemfontein boys came into this one undefeated but the hosts led 14-5 at the break thanks to tries from Niyi Adeolokun and Kieran Marmion.

The Cheetahs bit back after the break to go 22-14 ahead until Farrell’s late, late dramatic intervention – note also that hooker Joseph Dweba’s try-scoring continues, the big man’s up to five for the season already.

Shifting sands in Conference B

Scarlets went into the weekend top of Conference B but now find themselves down in fourth, that expected hyper-competitiveness on this side of the draw coming to fruition with just two points separating the top four.

Edinburgh wing Duhan van der Merwe did most of the damage in the 46-7 win with a hat-trick, the first coming as he finished off two bulldozing runs from Matt Scott and Ally Miller.

Further tries from Mike Willemse and an incredible fifth try of the season for Mark Bennett secured the bonus point before the half-time whistle – Willemse and Bennett both completing doubles after the break.

Unconvincing wins for Munster and Ulster

On Friday night Munster and Ulster both won to keep their seasons well on track, but in unconvincing style as Ospreys fought hard in Cork and Cardiff Blues threatened a comeback at the Kingspan.

The most important thing is always the win though, Arno Botha securing a crucial bonus point very late for Munster while John Cooney kept his composure to just about avoid danger for Ulster in their 17-13 triumph.
