Round 17 saw the full attacking potential of the Guinness PRO14 on show – including some outstanding tries.

Glasgow Warriors and Connacht ran in the lion’s share of the scores this weekend but individual efforts in all the other games were well worthy of being shortlisted.

Here’s the top five tries of a sublime weekend of rugby.

Rory O’Loughlin for Leinster v Toyota Cheetahs

Still holding onto their 12-7 half-time lead, Leinster were in a real battle against the Toyota Cheetahs approaching the hour-mark. It was then that Rory O’Loughlin struck.

The Cheetahs looked to have relieved the pressure with a solid boot to the halfway line.

But three powerful drives and some quick passing from a determined Leinster side ended up with the ball finding O’Loughlin in space on the left wing.

The winger raced onto his own excellent chip to finish in the corner and put the game out of sight for his side.

James Johnstone for Edinburgh vs Benetton

Edinburgh may have lost this game, but James Johnstone’s moment of magic gave them the lead and created a moment that will live long in the memories of those attending.

Out of nothing, the centre showed rapidly quick feet to burst past several Benetton defenders and score.

Whether it be jinking past the Italian team or riding tackles using his power, Johnstone briefly gave Edinburgh hope of an away win with a bit of magic.

They could not hold on, with Benetton eventually running out 18-10 victors, but Johnstone gave Edinburgh a chance.

Ruaridh Jackson for Glasgow Warriors vs Zebre

In a mammoth 42-10 win, the outstanding Ruaridh Jackson gave the travelling Glasgow Warriors fans a treat on his 150th appearance for the club.

With his team 21-3 up at Zebre, Adam Hastings’ deflected chip found its way into Jackson’s hands less than ten yards from the try line.

The full-back juggled the ball initially but then grasped it into his chest and dotted down over the line for the bonus-point score.

Tom Farrell for Connacht vs Ospreys

A vintage performance for Connacht saw them put away their Welsh opponents by scoring the most points of any Guinness PRO14 side this round.

With a glut of tries to choose from, it was the opening score which set the tone for the rest of the match inside two minutes.

An early move for Connacht began with a turn of pace from Peter Robb, before a couple of swift offloads, including a beauty from Kieran Marmion, saw Tom Farrell glide to the line and finish off a wonderful team try.

Olly Robinson for Cardiff Blues vs Isuzu Southern Kings

With the score level, Cardiff Blues needed some inspiration to break down a resilient Isuzu Southern Kings outfit.

Thankfully for the Blues, it came from the relentless Olly Robinson with less than 20 minutes to go.

After he started off the move from a ruck, the ball was moved out to the left side. A weaving run from Matthew Morgan left Kings defenders clutching at thin air. The ball was then recycled and fed to Robinson who powered over for the score.
